About

Residues (petroleum), Light Vacuum is a cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Light vacuum petroleum residues are complex hydrocarbon mixtures obtained from vacuum distillation of petroleum. These streams contain polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) including known carcinogens such as benzo[a]pyrene. Under EU REACH, such petroleum streams are subject to restrictions on PAH content in consumer products. The EU Cosmetics Regulation restricts these substances at ≥0.1% in cosmetic mixtures due to the carcinogenic potential of constituent PAHs.

Known concerns

  • Contains carcinogenic PAHs
  • Suspected carcinogen
  • Environmental hazard
  • Restricted ≥0.1% in EU cosmetics
