sh-Polypeptide-28 is a single-chain recombinant human peptide produced by fermentation in E. coli, with a sequence identical to human Prolactin. Prolactin is a peptide hormone involved in milk production, immune regulation, and skin homeostasis, including hair follicle cycling. The peptide contains up to 227 amino acids and may include disulfide bonds and/or glycosylation. The EU cosmetics regulation does not restrict prolactin-derived peptides in cosmetic products. For hair-care applications, prolactin-related peptides are investigated for their potential to modulate hair growth cycles. Topical cosmetic use involves significantly lower concentrations than physiological or pharmacological levels, supporting a favorable safety profile.
