Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A recombinant human leukemia inhibitory factor analogue designed for skin conditioning and repair applications.
This recombinant peptide replicates the human leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), a cytokine with roles in stem cell maintenance and tissue repair. Produced in E. coli with a maximum of 202 amino acids, it is subject to EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex II entry 416. LIF is a potent bioactive cytokine; while its recombinant peptide analogue used in cosmetics is much smaller and less potent than the native protein, it retains some growth-modulating activity that may benefit skin regeneration but also carries a low risk of sensitisation.
Function
Skin benefits
- May support skin stem cell environments and tissue repair
- Potential anti-ageing effects through regenerative pathways
Known concerns
- Cytokine activity — potential for skin irritation or sensitisation
- E. coli endotoxin contamination must be rigorously controlled
- Insufficient data on chronic topical exposure
