About
Powdered galls from the tamarisk tree — extremely tannin-rich. Useful as an astringent but astringency limits leave-on use.
Tamarix Gallica Gall Powder is the ground, insect-induced galls on tamarisk (Tamarix gallica) twigs. These galls are among the most tannin-dense natural materials known (up to 50% gallotannins and ellagitannins in parent Tamarix aphylla galls), giving powerful astringent, antioxidant, and mild antimicrobial effects. Historically used in Mediterranean folk medicine for wounds, diarrhea, and skin irritation. Cosmetic use is limited to astringent toners, hair/scalp tonics, and wash-off treatments at low percentages. EU CosIng lists Tamarix species without restriction; formal CIR data are absent. The main issue is astringency and protein-binding at high concentrations rather than toxicological hazards.
