About
A triethanolamine iodide salt — EU-restricted to oral hygiene products as an antiseptic. The iodine provides antimicrobial action but can cause sensitivities.
TEA-Hydroiodide (triethanolamine hydroiodide, CAS 7601-53-8, PubChem CID 2723762) is the hydroiodide salt of triethanolamine, listed under EU Annex III/62. It is restricted to oral care products where it functions as an antiseptic through iodine release. The iodine component provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, but iodine sensitivity is well-documented and can cause contact dermatitis, thyroid function interference, and allergic reactions. The triethanolamine component has its own safety considerations regarding nitrosamine contamination. EU regulation specifies maximum concentration limits and labelling requirements.
Skin benefits

Known concerns
- EU Annex III restricted — limited to specific product types
- Iodine sensitivity and allergic reactions
