About
Trideceth-50 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Trideceth-50 is the polyethylene glycol 50-mole ether of tridecyl alcohol (C13 branched/linear alcohol). It is listed in CosIng with emulsifying and surfactant functions. The very high degree of ethoxylation (EO50) makes it highly water-soluble and primarily used as a solubilizer for fragrances, essential oils, or oil-soluble actives in aqueous formulations. EU cosmetics does not specifically restrict Trideceth-50 in Annex III. However, the high EO number and limited dedicated safety data result in a slightly more cautious score. The 1,4-dioxane impurity concern applies as with all ethoxylated surfactants.
Skin benefits
- Excellent solubilizer for clear aqueous formulations
- Effective for fragrance and active solubilization
- Used in toners, serums, and aqueous cosmetic products
Known concerns
- 1,4-dioxane trace contamination from high EO process
- Mild-to-moderate skin or eye irritation possible at high concentrations
- Limited dedicated toxicological safety data for this specific compound
