About
Adzuki-bean seedcoat powder — a traditional Japanese cleansing scrub. Biodegradable and gentle; legume-allergic users should check.
Vigna Angularis Seedcoat Powder is milled seed-coat material from the adzuki bean (Vigna angularis), a staple legume of East Asian cuisine. It has been used for centuries in Japanese bathing ("arai-ko") as a gentle cleansing and exfoliating powder. Chemically it contains saponins (adzukisaponins), flavonoids, proteins and polysaccharides that provide mild surfactant and conditioning action in addition to mechanical exfoliation. In cosmetics it is used as a natural scrub, mask ingredient and cleansing powder. Topical tolerance is generally excellent, with the main caveats being legume-family allergen cross-reactivity (soy, peanut sensitized users) and saponin-related mild eye/mucous irritation at high loads. Biodegradable; no significant GHS hazards.
