About

2-amino-1,7-dihydro-6h-purin-6-one is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

This compound is guanine, a purine nucleobase that is a fundamental component of DNA and RNA. In cosmetics it is typically produced synthetically and used as a pearlescent or shimmer pigment (giving a nacreous lustre) and as a skin-conditioning agent. With no GHS hazard classification, no restrictions in EU Annexes I–VI, and a long history of safe cosmetic use, it is considered one of the safest cosmetic ingredients available. It occurs naturally in the stratum corneum as part of the natural moisturising factor.
