2-Benzylideneoctanal (commonly known as alpha-hexylcinnamaldehyde or HCA) is a synthetic fragrance chemical with a warm, jasmine-like odor profile. It is listed in EU Annex III (List of substances which cosmetic products must not contain except subject to the restrictions laid down) as a fragrance allergen requiring mandatory declaration on INCI label when present above 0.001% in leave-on products or 0.01% in rinse-off products.
