Beta-ionone is a naturally occurring terpenoid ketone found in numerous essential oils including rose, violet, and berries. It is widely used as a fragrance ingredient and is also relevant as a precursor in vitamin A synthesis. The compound has been reviewed by IFRA and RIFM with a favorable safety assessment. It is not listed in EU Annex III restrictions for fragrance allergens at current typical use concentrations.
