Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A naturally occurring unsaturated aldehyde with a fresh, fatty-citrus smell. Well-known in perfumery; generally low-risk at typical fragrance use levels.
9-Decenal (CAS 39770-05-3) is an unsaturated ten-carbon aldehyde found naturally in coriander, citrus peel oils, and other botanicals. In perfumery it delivers a classic aldehydic-citrus, slightly fatty top note and is used in fine fragrance and functional perfumery. Like most aldehydes, it oxidizes on extended air exposure, so formulators include antioxidants or use protective packaging. RIFM/IFRA assessments place it among routinely used fragrance aldehydes with no major toxicity concerns at cosmetic use levels. Not on EU CosIng Annex II.
