A broad-spectrum fungicide with serious reproductive, developmental, and carcinogenic concerns, absolutely banned from all cosmetic products in the EU.
Benomyl (ISO) is a carbamate fungicide that has been extensively studied and found to present serious reproductive, developmental, and carcinogenic hazards. The EU banned benomyl from all pesticide uses and it is absolutely prohibited in cosmetic products under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annex II. Its metabolite carbendazim is also subject to severe restrictions. The compound has been classified by IARC as a probable human carcinogen (Group 2A), and it presents significant environmental toxicity. No cosmetic use is permitted in the EU.
