About
A pine-derived terpene acetate with a fresh herbal-pine note. Like most terpenes, it can oxidize over time into sensitizing peroxides.
Beta-pinen-3-yl acetate (CAS 1078-95-1) is a monoterpene acetate related to alpha/beta-pinene chemistry, used as a fresh, pine-herbal fragrance ingredient. Monoterpenes including pinene and its derivatives readily oxidize on exposure to air/light to form allergenic peroxides; this is the primary long-term safety concern. RIFM and IFRA set use-level restrictions for the pinene family. No EU Annex II listing, but oxidized pinene is a known contact sensitizer in dermatology literature. Always formulate with antioxidant protection.
Skin benefits

- Low use levels
- Natural terpene origin
Known concerns
- Terpene auto-oxidation to sensitizing peroxides
