About
A fruity ester (pear/apricot note) widely used as fragrance and food flavor. Long safety record at cosmetic-level use.
Isoamyl butyrate (3-methylbutyl butanoate, CAS 106-27-4) is a fruity ester with pear, apricot, and tropical notes. It is one of the classic perfumery fruit-esters and is also approved as a food flavoring (FEMA GRAS, EU flavoring register). In cosmetics it is used as a fragrance ingredient. IFRA standards apply. It is not on the EU Annex III declarable-allergen list. Food-grade approvals and long use support a good safety baseline; at typical fragrance-use levels skin tolerability is good. In concentrated form it is a flammable liquid and a mild eye irritant, but those concerns are for bulk handling rather than finished products.
