Butyl hexanoate (also butyl caproate) is a fatty acid ester commonly used as a fragrance ingredient in cosmetics and fine fragrances, imparting fruity, apple-like notes. The butyl hexanoate structure is biodegradable and of low aquatic toxicity. It is not classified as a fragrance allergen under IFRA.
