About
A phenolic amide conjugate derived from p-coumaric and ferulic acids linked to a butanediamine backbone, functioning as an antioxidant and skin-lightening active.
Couaramido ferulamidobutane is a synthetic polyamine conjugate of p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid attached to a putrescine (butanediamine) backbone. It is a non-quaternary, non-surfactant active ingredient with antioxidant and tyrosinase-inhibition properties. Ferulic acid is already a well-established cosmetic antioxidant; the conjugate may enhance penetration and activity. No EU CosIng restriction entries found. The ingredient is used in skin-brightening and anti-aging formulations at low percentages (0.1-2%).
Skin benefits
- Antioxidant protection against free radical damage
- Tyrosinase inhibition for skin brightening
- Potential enhancement of ferulic acid stability when conjugated
Known concerns
- Limited historical safety data due to novel structure
- Possible photosensitization from phenolic moieties
- Mild skin irritation possible at higher concentrations
