About
Turmeric leaf powder — a milder, less-staining complement to turmeric root with similar antioxidant and skin-conditioning intent.
Curcuma longa leaf powder is milled from the dried foliage of the turmeric plant. It contains a lower level of curcuminoids than the root but retains flavonoids, sesquiterpenes, and essential-oil traces that give it antioxidant and skin-conditioning functionality. Listed in EU CosIng. The leaf pigment is milder, but staining is still possible at higher use levels. As with the root, occasional contact dermatitis has been reported in turmeric-sensitised individuals. No CIR monograph on the leaf specifically, and the dossier for leaf-specific safety is thinner than for root, which caps the score in upper yellow.
Skin benefits
- Flavonoid and minor curcuminoid content for antioxidant action
- Traditional skin-conditioning use
- Milder pigment profile than root
Known concerns
- Still carries some staining potential
- Limited peer-reviewed cosmetic data for leaf vs root
- Possible sensitisation in turmeric-allergic users
