About
Turmeric root — a curcuminoid-rich botanical with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action. Well studied and food-grade, but known to stain strongly.
Curcuma longa root (turmeric) is used in cosmetics as a skin-conditioning and antioxidant ingredient. Its active fraction — curcumin and related curcuminoids — is among the better-studied plant antioxidants, with documented anti-inflammatory and mild brightening effects in dermatology literature. Typical cosmetic levels are 0.1-2%. CIR has reviewed related Curcuma longa extracts and found them safe as used. EU CosIng lists the ingredient without restriction. The practical safety caveats are cosmetic rather than toxicological: the deep yellow pigment stains skin, towels, and formula, and contact dermatitis has been occasionally reported in turmeric-sensitised individuals. No IARC classification.
