About

Dimetofrine is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Dimetofrine is a sympathomimetic agent with vasoconstrictive properties used historically as a mucosal decongestant. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, sympathomimetic amines with pharmacological activity are restricted or prohibited in cosmetic products. The SCCS has not issued a safety opinion supporting cosmetic use, and the ingredient does not appear in any CosIng inventory as permitted for cosmetic application.

Known concerns

  • Pharmacologically active sympathomimetic — restricted in cosmetics
  • No EU CosIng entry as permitted cosmetic ingredient
  • Potential cardiovascular effects from topical exposure
