About
Disodium Laureth-5 Carboxyamphodiacetate is a cosmetic ingredient. Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), .alpha.-dodecyl-.omega.-2-(2-(N-carboxymethyl-N-(2-carboxymethoxy)ethyl)aminoethyl)amino-2-oxoethoxy-, disodium salts (4 mol EO average molar ratio). Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Disodium Laureth-5 Carboxyamphodiacetate is a polymeric amphoteric surfactant based on laureth-5 (5-unit polyethylene glycol lauryl ether) with dual carboxylate groups neutralized to disodium salts. It is structurally similar to disodium lauroamphodiacetate but with an ethoxylation bridge improving water solubility and mildness. EU CosIng lists no Annex II or III restrictions. The ethoxylate chain is a low concern at this degree (5 units); overall the ingredient is regarded as a very mild surfactant appropriate for facial cleansers and baby products.
Skin benefits
- Very mild cleansing suitable for sensitive and infant skin
- Good foaming performance without disrupting skin barrier
- Low irritation potential compared to anionic surfactants
Known concerns
- Ethoxylation residual 1,4-dioxane trace contamination possible
- Mild eye irritation at high concentration in leave-on
