About
An anionic sulfosuccinate surfactant used in cosmetic formulations; it can cause eye irritation at higher concentrations but is generally regarded as safe in rinse-off products.
DISODIUM OLETH-3 SULFOSUCCINATE is the disodium salt of an ethoxylated (3 mol EO) sulfosuccinate half-ester of oleyl alcohol. It functions as an anionic surfactant in cosmetic formulations. It is not listed in EU Annex II or Annex III restriction lists. Sulfosuccinates are known eye irritants, particularly at higher concentrations, and this ingredient is predominantly used in rinse-off formulations where exposure is brief. Mild skin irritation is possible. Trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation is a standard impurity consideration.
Skin benefits
- Effective anionic surfactant for cleansing formulations
- Provides good foaming properties
Known concerns
- Known eye irritant at higher concentrations; primarily used in rinse-off formulations
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane residue from ethoxylation process
