About
A ricinoleic acid-derived sulfosuccinate surfactant with mild irritation potential; primarily used in rinse-off cosmetic formulations where exposure is transient.
DISODIUM PEG-8 RICINOSUCCINATE is the disodium salt of a PEG-8 sulfosuccinate derived from ricinoleic acid (castor oil). It functions as an anionic surfactant in cosmetic formulations. It is not listed in EU Annex II or Annex III restriction lists. The moderate ethoxylation degree (8 mol EO) and the castor oil-derived fatty acid chain result in a surfactant with moderate irritation potential, primarily relevant for eye exposure. It is predominantly used in rinse-off formulations. Trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation is a standard impurity consideration.
Skin benefits
- Effective anionic surfactant for cleansing formulations
- Provides good foaming properties
Known concerns
- Eye irritation possible; primarily used in rinse-off formulations
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane residue from ethoxylation process
