About
Dodoxynol-5 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Dodoxynol-5 is an alkylphenyl polyethoxylate (APEO) based on dodecylphenyl, structurally related to the Nonoxynol and Octoxynol series. APEOs are subject to EU restrictions under REACH due to concerns about their degradation products (alkylphenols) which are persistent, bioaccumulative, and endocrine-disrupting. While Dodoxynol-5 is not individually listed in EU Annex II or III, the entire APEO class faces increasing regulatory pressure in cosmetic applications. Dodoxynol-5 has moderate irritation potential and the same 1,4-dioxane contamination risk as other ethoxylated surfactants. Many EU formulators have moved away from APEOs in favor of fatty alcohol ethoxylates.
