About

HEXAHYDRO-DIMETHYLSPIROMETHANONAPHTHALENE-OXIRANE is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Hexahydro-dimethylspirmanonaphthalene-oxirane (CAS 41723-98-2 and CAS 41816-03-9 represent isomeric variants) is a spirocyclic fragrance molecule combining a decalin-type skeleton with an oxirane (epoxide) ring. This spiro-fragmentation creates unique odor properties valued in high-end perfumery for its transparent, musky-woody character. The epoxide ring introduces moderate chemical reactivity, which in other fragrance epoxides has occasionally been associated with sensitization at high concentrations. The compound is not listed in EU Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted) under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, and IFRA standards permit its use as a fragrance ingredient at normal use levels.
