About
Hydrochlorofluorocarbon 142b is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
HCFC-142B (1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane) is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant with significant ozone-depleting properties (ODP) and high global warming potential (GWP ~ 2310). It is classified as H220 (extremely flammable gas), H280 (contains gas under pressure; may explode if heated), and H420 (harms public health and environment by destroying ozone in the upper atmosphere). Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009 on ozone-depleting substances, HCFCs are being phased out. The compound has no function or approval in cosmetic formulations and would only appear as an impurity or residual propellant in banned aerosol products.
