About
A fully saturated animal-derived emollient with citrate groups that provides emolliency and some chelating properties in cosmetic formulations.
Hydrogenated Tallow Glycerides Citrate is the saturated glyceride fraction from beef tallow that has been partially esterified with citric acid. The hydrogenation provides oxidative stability while the citrate moiety can contribute mild chelating properties. It functions primarily as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent under EU Regulation 1223/2009. Animal-origin concerns are similar to other tallow derivatives, but the hydrogenation eliminates oxidative stability concerns. Citrate esters are generally recognized as safe at cosmetic concentrations.
Skin benefits
- Stable, oxidative-resistant emollient base
- Provides smooth, non-greasy skin feel
- Citrate groups may offer mild chelating antioxidant benefit
Known concerns
- Animal-derived – same TSE and religious considerations as tallow
- May contain residual free citric acid affecting pH
