About
Aromatic steam-distillate water from Iris germanica (German iris) rhizomes, used in cosmetics for its fragrance, skin-conditioning, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Iris germanica root water (orris root water) is obtained by steam distillation of Iris germanica rhizomes, the same material used in perfumery for its distinctive violet-like fragrance from irone and related ketones. Orris root has been used in traditional medicine and cosmetics for centuries. EU CosIng assessment lists Iris germanica root/rhizome extract and derived waters as safe for cosmetic use without restrictions. The distillation process removes most of the potentially irritant starches and resins present in the crude rhizome. Iris rhizomes contain β-sitosterol and isoflavones with documented anti-inflammatory properties.
Skin benefits
- Anti-inflammatory properties from isoflavones and phytosterols
- Skin conditioning and emollient effect

- Soothing properties for sensitive or reactive skin
Known concerns
