About
A small fruity ester (isopropanol + butyric acid) with pineapple-pear notes. FEMA GRAS flavor status and a clean perfumery track record.
Isopropyl butyrate (CAS 638-11-9) is the isopropyl ester of n-butyric acid, naturally present in some fruits and widely used as a flavor (FEMA GRAS) and fragrance material for pineapple, pear, and generic fruity top-notes. Simple short-chain fatty acid esters are rapidly hydrolyzed by endogenous esterases to the parent alcohol and acid, both of which are well-tolerated. Primary hazard classification is flammability at neat bulk levels; at cosmetic formulation percentages this is not an issue. Not a classified sensitizer, not an EU Annex III declared allergen.
