About

A minty, cooling fragrance chemical derived from pulegone (found in pennyroyal and geranium oils), used to impart fresh herbal notes in perfumes and cosmetics.

Isopulegyl acetate is a fragrance ingredient produced by acetylation of isopulegol, which itself is derived from pulegone. It is used in cosmetic fragrances for its fresh, minty-herbal character. While pulegone has some toxicity concerns, isopulegyl acetate itself is not listed on any EU restriction annex and is considered safe for fragrance use at normal cosmetic concentrations by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA).

Skin benefits

  • Provides fresh, minty-herbal fragrance in cosmetic products

Known concerns

  • Mild sensitization potential in sensitive individuals
  • Derived from pulegone, which has hepatotoxicity concerns
  • Not a listed EU fragrance allergen requiring mandatory declaration
