About

A Lactobacillus ferment of prickly-pear and molasses — hydrating, soothing and rich in polysaccharides. Clean, gentle active.

This ingredient is the filtrate of a Lactobacillus fermentation using Opuntia ficus-indica (prickly pear) fruit or cladodes, molasses and water as substrate. Fermentation yields low-molecular-weight sugars, amino acids, lactic and other organic acids plus Opuntia-derived mucilage polysaccharides and trace betalains/polyphenols (antioxidant pigments). In cosmetics it functions as a humectant, skin conditioner and mild antioxidant, often in hydrating leave-on formats. Opuntia extracts have a long cosmetic and food-safety history; Lactobacillus ferment filtrates are similarly well tolerated. No CIR monograph specifically, but the composition inherits the safety profile of its well-studied components. Topical tolerance in sensitive skin is good and no significant GHS hazards apply.
