About
Laevo Carveol is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Carveol is a monoterpenoid secondary alcohol (para-menthadienol) existing as four stereoisomers. The laevo form (1R,4R,5R-6R) is the natural enantiomer found predominantly in caraway oil. It is used as a fragrance ingredient and is not specifically restricted under EU cosmetics regulation. Like other terpene alcohols, it may undergo oxidation and should be stabilized in formulations. IFRA guidelines recommend limits for terpene alcohols in leave-on products.
Skin benefits
- Natural fragrance from caraway oil
- Provides sweet, herbaceous scent profile
Known concerns
- Terpene alcohol — oxidation products may be sensitizing
- IFRA guidelines recommend standards of purity
- Not specifically restricted but subject to general fragrance guidance
