Laureth-7 Tartrate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Laureth-7 Tartrate is a lauryl (C12) alcohol ether combined with tartaric acid. The tartrate salt improves water solubility and provides milder surfactant action compared to pure ether sulfates. EU Regulation 1223/2009 permits this ingredient with no entries in Annex II or III. Laureth compounds (lauryl alcohol + ethylene oxide) have a long history of safe cosmetic use when properly purified.

Skin benefits

  • Mild surfactant suitable for sensitive skin formulations
  • Emulsifying properties for O/W systems
  • Contributes to good foaming characteristics in cleansers

Known concerns

  • Tartaric acid salts may affect formulation pH
  • Standard PEG impurity concerns (residual EO, 1,4-dioxane)
