About
Laureth-8 Phosphate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Laureth-8 Phosphate is produced by phosphorylating Laureth-8 (dodecyl alcohol ethoxylated with approximately 8 moles of ethylene oxide). The phosphate esterification significantly reduces the irritation potential of the parent ethoxylate while maintaining surfactant performance. Under EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, this ingredient is not restricted. The mildness profile makes it particularly suitable for cosmetic products marketed for sensitive skin, although as with all surfactants, concentration and application context determine its safety profile.
Skin benefits
- Very mild surfactant suitable for sensitive skin
- Effective emulsifier for micellar and cleansing formulations
- Good compatibility with various cosmetic actives
Known concerns
- Mild eye irritation potential at high concentrations
- May cause skin drying in leave-on products if not properly formulated
