About
A polyethylene glycol ether of myristyl alcohol esterified with lauric acid, functioning as an emulsifier and emollient that is well-tolerated by most skin types.
Myreth-3 Laurate (INCI) is a fatty acid ester of a polyethoxylated alkyl ether listed on EU CosIng as an emulsifying and skin-conditioning agent. The ethoxylation raises the HLB making it suitable for o/w emulsions. The lauric acid moiety is a naturally occurring medium-chain fatty acid. This ingredient is not subject to EU Annex II or III restrictions. The ethoxylation step may introduce 1,4-dioxan contamination risk, which is regulated under REACH and Cosmetics Regulation, requiring impurity levels below accepted safety thresholds.
Skin benefits
- Effective emollient and skin-conditioning properties
- Improves skin softness and texture
- Stable emulsifier suitable for various cosmetic formulations
Known concerns
- Potential 1,4-dioxane trace contamination from ethoxylation process
- Eye irritation possible at high concentrations
- Generally low skin irritation profile
