About
An isomerized petroleum naphtha fraction used as an industrial solvent or refining intermediate; benzene contamination at >0.1% w/w places it on the EU Annex II prohibited list.
This isomerization naphtha is a petroleum middle distillate processed to increase branched alkane content for industrial applications such as fuel blending or solvent use. As with all petroleum naphthas, it may contain benzene at levels exceeding the 0.1% w/w cutoff. EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex II entry for benzene effectively bars this ingredient from cosmetics, and no SCCS safety opinion exists supporting cosmetic use.
Known concerns
- Benzene >0.1% w/w — EU Annex II prohibited carcinogen
- Complex hydrocarbon mixture without defined cosmetic safety profile
- Industrial solvent/fuel intermediate, not a skincare ingredient
