A polyethylene glycol ester of stearic acid used as an emulsifying agent, opacifier, and skin conditioning agent in creams, lotions, and cleansing products.
PEG-14 STEARATE is the esterification product of polyethylene glycol (14 EO units) with stearic acid, a common long-chain fatty acid. The 14-unit EO chain provides a moderate safety margin with limited skin penetration. Stearic acid itself is a well-characterized, safe fatty acid. CIR has assessed PEG stearates as safe for cosmetic use at current levels. Not restricted in EU Annexes II or III under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Widely used in both rinse-off and leave-on cosmetic formulations.
