About
A PEGylated quaternary ammonium compound used as a conditioning surfactant in hair care, with typical concerns for this chemical class.
PEG-15 Cocammonium Methosulfate is a quaternary ammonium salt derived from coconut oil with 15 moles of ethylene oxide on average. It is used for its antistatic and conditioning properties. Like other PEGylated quaternary compounds, it may contain traces of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane. Coconut-derived alkyl chains are generally considered mild, but ethoxylation byproducts remain a regulatory concern in the EU.
