About
A water-soluble nonionic surfactant and emulsifier based on PEG-ethoxylated oleic acid, used to create stable oil-in-water emulsions in skin care products.
PEG-32 Dioleate is a polyethoxylated dioleate ester with a higher degree of ethoxylation (32 EO units), making it more water-soluble than lower-EO variants. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009 it is permitted without specific restrictions, though batches should be tested for 1,4-dioxane contamination in line with SCCS Notes of Guidance.
Skin benefits
- Excellent emulsifier for lightweight, fluid cosmetic emulsions
- Contributes to smooth skin feel without greasiness
Known concerns
- Low-level 1,4-dioxane possible as manufacturing byproduct
- Generally well tolerated; irritation unlikely at cosmetic concentrations
