Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A nonionic surfactant and foam booster used in cleansing products; generally safe for cosmetic use with only minor concerns about processing impurities.
Polyethylene glycol lauramide (5 EO) is a nonionic surfactant derived from lauric acid, used to boost foam and viscosity in cleansers and body washes. The SCCS has noted that ethoxylation byproducts such as 1,4-dioxane (a potential carcinogen) can remain as trace contaminants; industry purification standards keep residual levels low. Not restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation Annexes I–VI; safe for use when residual 1,4-dioxane is控制在可接受水平.
Skin benefits
- enhances foaming and cleansing efficacy
- improves product texture and stability
Known concerns
- trace 1,4-dioxane impurity from ethoxylation process
