Good
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A high-EO PEG glyceride stearate used as a solubiliser and emulsifier, particularly in hair care and skin care formulations.
PEG-60 Glyceryl Stearate contains 60 mol ethylene oxide, making it highly water-soluble and an effective solubiliser for fragrances and oil-soluble actives. EU Regulation 1223/2009 permits this high-EO glyceride with standard purity requirements. The high EO degree demands careful monitoring of residual solvents (ethylene oxide ≤1 ppm, 1,4-dioxane ≤10 ppm per international GMP guidance). Not restricted in EU Annex II or III.
Skin benefits
- Excellent solubiliser for fragrances and oil-soluble ingredients
- Effective emulsifier in aqueous-based formulations
- Skin conditioning and emollient properties
Known concerns
- High EO content means purity testing is particularly important
- Residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane require tight control
- No EU-specific restrictions
