About
Husk tomato (Physalis pubescens) fruit juice — a Solanaceae fruit juice with carotenoids and vitamin C. Use ripe fruit only.
Physalis pubescens fruit juice is pressed from the ripe golden berries of the husk tomato, a Solanaceae relative of tomato and tomatillo. Ripe fruit is food-grade and contains carotenoids, vitamin C, and flavonoids providing antioxidant function. Unripe Physalis fruits, leaves, and calyces contain solanine-type alkaloids and physalins that are not appropriate in cosmetics; only ripe fruit pulp/juice should be used. EU CosIng lists the species without restriction, and no GHS hazards apply to ripe-fruit juice.
