About
He shou wu root water, a classic Chinese herb for hair and skin vitality.
Polygonum multiflorum (He Shou Wu) contains stilbene glycosides (piceid, polydatin) and anthraquinones. Multiple pharmacovigilance reports from China, Korea, and other Asian countries have documented drug-induced liver injury (DILI) associated with oral consumption. The compound emodin-8-O-beta-D-glucoside is implicated. Korea's MFDS has issued safety warnings; the EU SCCS has not issued a specific opinion but the ingredient warrants caution.

- traditional hair and skin tonic use
- antioxidant
Known concerns
- documented hepatotoxicity (liver injury) from oral use
