About
A chlorinated thioxanthone derivative with strong photosensitising potential, carrying environmental hazard warnings for aquatic organisms.
This is a polymeric PEG-linked chlorothioxanthone photoinitiator/resin component. Thioxanthone derivatives are well-documented photosensitisers that can generate reactive oxygen species under UV exposure, causing phototoxicity and photoallergy. The chlorinated aromatic structure also triggers H400 (very toxic to aquatic life) and H410 (very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects) classifications. EU Annex III listing is applicable for chlorinated aromatic photoactive compounds in cosmetic products.
Known concerns
- Photosensitiser (thioxanthone structural alert)
- Phototoxicity and photoallergy risk
- Aquatic toxicity H400, H410
- EU Annex III restricted compound
