Reproterol is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Reproterol is a selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist used medicinally as a bronchodilator for asthma and COPD treatment. It has no legitimate role in cosmetic formulations and is listed in EU Annex II of Regulation EC 1223/2009, which prohibits its use in cosmetic products. Beta-2 agonists as a class are excluded from cosmetic use due to their pharmacological activity, potential for systemic effects, and absence of any cosmetic benefit that would justify the risk.
Known concerns
- EU Annex II — explicitly banned from all cosmetic products
- Pharmaceutical agent — beta-2 agonist with systemic pharmacological activity
- No cosmetic function that would justify use
- Can cause cardiovascular and neurological systemic effects
