About
A safflower-oil-derived quaternary ammonium conditioner offering good substantivity and a mild ethoxysulfate counterion, suitable for leave-on skin and hair products.
Saffloweramidopropyl ethyldimonium ethosulfate carries a safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) fatty acid chain — predominantly linoleic acid — linked to a propylamino group and an ethyl-dimethyl quaternary nitrogen. The ethyl substitution reduces cationic strength relative to trimethyl variants, improving mildness. Not listed in EU Annex II or III. The safflower-derived chain provides some emolliency. Used in conditioners and moisturizers for its skin-softening and static-control properties.
Skin benefits
- Conditioning deposition from fatty acid chain
- Softness and smoothness improvement on skin and hair
- Antistatic effects in hair care applications
Known concerns
- Minor skin and eye irritation possible at high concentrations
- Limited independent safety data available
- Safflower pollen allergy sensitivity in susceptible individuals
