About
Tomato fruit — a food-grade source of lycopene, the standout carotenoid antioxidant. Gentle, well-studied nutritionally, and at home in skincare.
Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) fruit is used in cosmetics as juice, puree, powder or extract, supplying lycopene (a potent carotenoid antioxidant), beta-carotene, vitamin C, flavonoids and organic acids. Listed in EU CosIng as skin-conditioning/antioxidant; no SCCS restrictions. There is a strong dietary safety record and moderate in-vitro and in-vivo evidence that lycopene supports photo-protection when consumed; topical evidence is more modest but points in the same direction. Patch test reactions are rare. Overall a solid, food-grade antioxidant ingredient.
