About
Steareth-80 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
STEARETH-80 is a stearyl alcohol (C18) ethoxylated with approximately 80 moles of ethylene oxide. The very high EO degree results in minimal irritation potential and excellent water compatibility, making it suitable for sensitive-skin formulations. It is listed in Annex III of the EU Cosmetics Regulation and is subject to standard purity requirements. The high degree of ethoxylation results in an ingredient that the SCCS has assessed as presenting negligible concern at typical cosmetic use levels.
Skin benefits
- Gentle emulsifier well-suited to sensitive-skin and baby-care formulations
- Provides stable, smooth textures when used as co-emulsifier in combination systems
Known concerns
- Minimal safety concerns; standard EU residual monomer compliance required
- Generally recognized as safe for use across all skin types including sensitive skin
