Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A UV filter component of benzophenone mixtures that has been flagged for potential endocrine disruption and is restricted in cosmetic sunscreens in the EU.
Benzophenone-11 (CAS 1341-54-4, also called dioxybenzone or 4,4′-dihydroxybenzophenone) is a UV filter component used in combination with other benzophenone derivatives. The EU CosIng database lists it under restrictions as part of Annex VI (UV filters). Benzophenone-11 and related benzophenones have been associated with endocrine disruption, photoallergy, and potential reproductive toxicity concerns in toxicological studies, resulting in a lower safety score. The EU has imposed stricter limits on benzophenone-class UV filters.
