About
Ceteth-18 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
CETETH-18 is a cetyl alcohol ethoxylated with approximately 18 moles of ethylene oxide. The high EO degree imparts greater hydrophilicity and significantly reduces irritation potential compared to low-EO cetyl ethers. EU Cosmetics Regulation compliance requires this ingredient to meet residual monomer limits; it is listed in Annex III. Studies by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel have classified this type of ingredient as safe for use in cosmetic formulations at current practices of use.
Skin benefits
- Skin-conditioning emollient that improves skin softness
- Creates lightweight, elegant textures in lotions and fluid emulsions
Known concerns
- Must comply with EU residual monomer purity thresholds (ethylene oxide, 1,4-dioxane)
- Minimal irritation risk; standard label precautions sufficient
