About
Clobetasone is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Clobetasone is a synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid of the glucocorticoid class. Topical corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive but carry risks of skin atrophy, telangiectasia, and systemic absorption with prolonged use. EU Regulation 1223/2009 does not include corticosteroids among approved cosmetic substances; they are regulated as medicinal products. Cosmetic use of clobetasone is not permitted.
Known concerns
- EU Annex II — corticosteroids generally prohibited in cosmetics
- Skin atrophy with prolonged use
- Risk of systemic absorption
- Eye toxicity if applied near eyes
